What the Surface AI plugin adds, and how to manage its key.
The plugin is the quickest way to connect: it adds the Surface MCP server and asks for your key when you enable it. Its source is public at surface-ai-code/claude-plugins.

Your key
Claude Code stores the key in your system keychain, not in a file, and sends it to the server on every request. Never paste it into the chat.
To change or replace it, run /plugin, choose surface-ai, configure it with the new key,
and restart Claude Code. Then revoke the old key in
Settings → Developers. A revoked key stops working
immediately.
A key belongs to you, not your workspace: revoking yours leaves everyone else connected. Create one per machine.
Updating
Claude Code checks the plugin's version when it refreshes the marketplace. Run /plugin to see
whether an update is available.
